Celebrating The WASP Style

WASHINGTON GREEN — On Thursday, June 21, at 6 pm, in the Wykeham Room of the Gunn Memorial Library, Susanna Salk will talk about her recently published book, A Privileged Life: Celebrating WASP Style.

At once glamorous and mysterious, the WASP lifestyle has influenced countless trends in the worlds of fashion, home design and pop culture. Today, one no longer has to be a WASP to embrace its casual-yet-elegant attitude and sense of style.

Susanna Salk grew up in Essex, Mass., and earned her BA in English at Vassar College and then moved to Manhattan where she helped launch Elle Decor magazine as design and decoration manager.

After moving to Los Angeles she worked at the Creative Artists Agency in the motion picture department and then went on to screenwriting. Eventually she returned to the East Coast and became a contributing editor to Elle Decor Magazine. In 2004, she was named special projects editor at House & Garden Magazine.

Her responsibilities range from scouting houses to speaking on behalf of the magazine on design trends as well as hosting many designer-driven events around the country. She also appears regularly on the CBS Early Show and on Today for NBC. There is no charge to attend the program.  Gunn Memorial Library is at the juncture of Wykeham Road and Route 47.

Call the library at 860-868-7586 or e-mail GunnLib@biblio.org for further information.
