Brave New Ecology: Nature In A Changing World
Brave New Ecology: Nature In A Changing World
WEST REDDING â Dr Peter Del Tredici, senior research scientist at the Arnold Arboretum and a Highstead Arboretum board member will present âBrave New Ecology: Nature in a Changing Worldâ on Sunday, June 10, at 10 am.
In a slide lecture and guided walk, Dr Del Tredici will explore the nature of the modern suburban environment and its changes in response to the growth of the human population and global economy. His talk will discuss the spread of invasive plant species as a symptom of environmental degradation, rather than its cause, and will explore the management of resulting problems as a rebuilding of ecological function rather than a restoration of past ecosystems.
Peter Del Tredici has worked at Harvard Universityâs Arnold Arboretum since 1979 as plant propagator, editor of Arnoldia, Director of Living Collections, Senior Research Scientist, and Curator of the famous Larz Anderson collections of bonsai plants. He is also a lecturer in the Department of Landscape Architecture specializing in urban environments.
He was the winner of the 1999 Arthur Hoyt Scott Medal and Award, presented annually by the Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College âin recognition of outstanding national contributions to the science and art of gardening.â
The slide lecture will be held at the Highstead Barn, 127 Lonetown Road. For reservations or further information call 203-938-8809.
