*Summer Reading Kick-off and Childrenâs Book Sale: June 26 is the first day of the C.H. Booth Library Summer Reading Program for children ages 4 through grade 5. This independent reading program is designed to encourage children to read, read, read all summer long. Children may sign up for this program on or after June 26. The program will run through August 18.
The Friends of the Library will sponsor a childrenâs book sale from 10 am to 3 pm on Tuesday, June 26.

Programs For Young Adults
*Letâs Talk About⦠The River Between Us by Richard Peck on Wednesday, June 13, from 4 to 5 pm, in the Story Room.
During the early days of the Civil War, the Pruitt family takes in two mysterious young ladies who have fled New Orleans to come north to Illinois. This book is especially chosen to coordinate with Newtown Middle Schoolâs 8th grade study of the Civil War, but grades 5 and up are welcome to join us.
If enough people sign up in advance, we will move to a larger venue. Sign up at the Main Floor Circulation Desk, call the library, or just drop in.

Adult Programs
*Newtown Author Reception: Come meet the very talented group of authors who call Newtown home.
A special reception has been planned for Saturday, June 9, from 2 to 4 pm, in the lower meeting room.
*Daytime Book Discussion: Join us on Monday, June 11, at 1 pm, for a discussion of Black Water by Joyce Carol Oates
*Author Talk with Thomas Craughwell: On Monday, June 11, at 7:30 pm, Thomas Craughwell will share entertaining insights into the life in the Gilded Age: the rise of the counterfeiting in America, the establishment of the Secret Service to combat it, the prevalence of grave robberies, and the art of 19th Century embalming.
This program will be based on his strange but true book, Stealing Lincolnâs Body.
*Computer Class with Dan Tanenbaum: Danâs next class, for intermediate-level computer users, will be on Saturday, June 16, from 10 am to 1 pm. There is a $10 fee for this class, and registration is requested.
*Summer Concerts: This year the libraryâs summer concerts will be at a new location, the bandstand at Sandy Hook Center (corner of Glen Road and Church Hill Road). Performances begin at 7 pm, and attendees should bring their own chairs or blankets for seating.
The concerts will include Redstone Ridge on Saturday, June 23, performing contemporary bluegrass; The Hollister-Thompson Band on Saturday, July 14, with indie rock; and Easton Banjo Society on Saturday, August 4.
*Independent Film Series: Men at Work tells the hilarious story of four old friends who, driving back from a failed skiing trip, encounter a strange and enormous rock. The menâs frivolous attempt to dislodge the rock gradually disintegrates into a tale of betrayal, defeat, and renewed hope. Their middleclass problems and the absurd phallic rock venture gives rise to great humor.
This film will be screened in the air-conditioned lower meeting room on Tuesday, July 3, at 7:30. Admission is, of course, free.
*Big Book Sale: Friends of the Libraryâs 32nd Annual Book Sale will return Saturday, June 30, to Wednesday, July 4, running daily from 9 am to 5 pm.
There is an admission charge for Saturday only, $10 between 9 am to noon and $5 from noon to 5 pm. Admission is free for the remainder of this big event. Over 80 categories are being sorted and we have more than 120,000 books to offer. The sale will be at Reed Intermediate School, 3 Trades Lane.
*The Book Nook: A great selection of brand new woodworking books have just arrived at the Book Nook in time for Fatherâs Day gift giving.
Some of them are hard to find classics that are currently out of print but cornerstones for the serious craftsmanâs library.
C.H. Booth Library, at 25 Main Street, can be reached by calling 426-4533.
