A Long Time In Coming
A Long Time
In Coming
To the Editor:
The first section of the news article âBudget Rejection May Force Borrowingâ in last weekâs Bee infuriates me. It talks about the possibility of having to borrow money and how hard it will be to secure an upgrade to the municipal bond rating through Moodyâs Investment Service if the fourth referendum budget fails on June 5. If our leaders in Newtown politics had a clue (most, not all) then they wouldnât present overreaching budget proposals for the citizens of Newtown to vote for year after year. This yearâs budget problems and numerous referendum failures were a long time in coming, and it doesnât surprise me in the least that this is happening now.
Thankfully, John Kortze is starting to understand this point, as outlined by the last few sentences of the news article, where he said, âWhile there is definitely a faction of taxpayers saying No as a protest vote over the town offices and general dissatisfaction about other things going on, we believe the majority of No voters are simply tired of paying the larger increases weâve seen over a number of past budgets. People just want a lower level of spending.â Iâm definitely tired of those yearly large increases in taxes.
