KIM WIGGINS & JESUS MOROLES AT ALTERMANN GALLERIES, W/2 cuts
; ak/gs set 6-8; #703422
SANTA FE, N.M. â Altermann Galleries will present two solo exhibitions over the summer at the 225 Canyon Road gallery. First, works by K. Douglas âKimâ Wiggins will go on view Saturday, July 6, with an opening reception for the artist from 5 to 7 pm.
Wiggins, who is referred to as a Regional Expressionist, focuses on works depicting life in the Southwest. This exhibition will continue with works from this theme, but it will also include pieces based on a recent trip the artist took to New York City.
The first sculpture ever created by Wiggins, entitled âSecret of the Raven,â will be offered in both regular patina and polychrome versions. The show will be on view through August 19.
On Friday, August 3, works by Jesus Moroles, a master sculptor, will go on view with an opening at the gallerym, with the artist in attendance.
Moroles established himself as one of the master sculptors of his generation with the 1996 sculpture plaza for the Edwin A. Ulrich Museum in Wichita, Kan. In the tradition of his esthetic mentor, Isamu Noguchi, Moroles designed and sculpted a granite landscape, comprising multiple works, which together create a single environment that serves as an entrance to the museum and an outdoor site to exhibit important sculpture.
To date, Morolesâ work has participated in more than 100 solo shows and has been the subject of numerous articles and reviews in publications such as ArtNews, Artforum, Artspace, Artweek, Newsweek, Arts, Southwest Art, Time and The New York Times, as well as several books, such as Art in Texas, Contemporary Art in New Mexico and A Comprehensive Guide to Outdoor Sculpture in Texas. His work can be found in private and public collections worldwide.
All works will be subject to prior sale and can be viewed in advance at the gallery or at www.altermann.com.
