Summer Sounds Have Returned To Ashlar

Ashlar of Newtown and Lockwood Lodge will present the 15th Annual Summer Sounds Concert Series on four more Tuesday evenings this season. The series opened earlier this week with a performance on June 12 by Berkshire Big Band, performing selections from its repertoire of Big Band music.

Concerts begin at 7 pm at the facility, which is at 139 Toddy Hill Road in Newtown. The programs are open to and suitable for all ages, and admission is free.

Bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating. Limited refreshments will be available, but picnics are welcome. There are no rain dates scheduled for any of the performances. For additional information concerning this year’s series, call 426-5847.

The series will continue on June 26, with Broadway music in a cabaret style setting in a program called “Musical at Richter Players.” On July 10, Housatonic River Jazz Band will perform music from the 1920s to 1950s.

The Billy Cofrances Jazz Quintet performs jazz favorites from all eras; that band will be at Ashlar on July 24. The series will conclude on August 7 with Dixieland and Big Band music performed by Galvanized Jazz Band.

In September, Ashlar will also host a concert by The Bear Cats Band on Saturday, September 15. The performance will be a complement to an antiques car show which will run that day from 10 am to 3 pm. Admission is free. The car show will be presented by Classic Nights Car Club.
