Bicycle Playground Takeover Planned
Newtown Parks & Recreation has announced plans for a new event, a Bicycle Playground Takeover scheduled for Wednesday, June 19.
The event will essentially be a bicycle parade for all ages within Fairfield Hills, centered around the Bicycle Playground that opened one year ago. The playground is near Newtown Senior Center on Simpson Street, with parking available nearby.
Registration will open at 5 pm. Ages 10 and under will begin their parade at 5:30, followed at 6 by a parade for all ages.
All are encouraged to decorate their bicycles and/or helmets. Safety is the priority, however, so decorations and any costumes must not impede vision or the safe operation of a bicycle.
Helmets are required for all riders.
A limited supply of helmets and bicycles will be available for use.
Following the parade, all will be invited to head to nearby NewSylum Brewing Company to enjoy pizza.
The Bicycle Playground Takeover is being co-hosted by Newtown Parks & Recreation and New England Mountain Bike Association-Housatonic Valley chapter.
Registration is requested and available through peburton@aol.com. Questions can also be sent to that address.
