Music is a part of every young person’s life. How would you describe today’s music – what’s “cool” with kids – to adults? How do you listen to it? What do you listen to? What are some trends?

Jordan Rancourt: “A lot of kids like to play it loud. They like pop music, rap music, and they like to listen to one or the other. There’s a lot of variety.”

Jesse Briden: “Music today makes you feel differently — different music makes you feel different ways. I like rock, but some might like different music.”

Farlay Miller: “Today’s music is mostly pop music. Boy bands and Britney Spears. There are a lot of idols. They’re good looking and appeal to the teenage scene. Students feel like they can relate to them.”

Steve Giacolone: “It’s full of people who can’t sing but have pretty faces and marketers just use them to take advantage of the teen pop market.”

Chantal Thompson: “Some of it is kind of violent, but most of it sends a good message and helps kids with their problems.”

Lindsey Coyle: “Some music gives a really good message and you can relate to it, but some can be really violent and send a bad message to teens.”
