Collision At Curve
Newtown Police report Alexis Frias-Sanchez, 39, of Danbury, operating an Enterprise Rent-A-Car, was traveling northbound on Old Green Road at 4:18 pm April 23. Lauren Freeman, 42, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2021 Honda Pilot, was traveling southbound on Old Green Road. Police said Frias-Sanchez’s vehicle hit the tail light of Freeman’s vehicle as they were passing each other on a narrow curve in the road.
No injuries were reported at the scene.
Police were unable to determine fault at the scene. No enforcement action was taken.
Backed Into Van
Newtown Police report Maryann Ferraro, 76, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2014 Subaru Forrester, was backing out of a driveway on Watkins Drive at 9:26 am May 15. Rayshun Williams, 41, of Bridgeport, operating a 2020 Ford Transit T-350 van, was parked on Watkins Drive. Ferraro backed into Williams’ vehicle, impacting the rear bumper.
Williams mentioned possible back pain, but declined medical attention.
Ferraro was given a verbal warning for unsafe backing.
Rear-Ended On Wasserman Way
Newtown Police report William Roche, 40, of Woodbury, operating a 2015 Toyota Camry, was traveling eastbound on Wasserman Way at 7:52 am May 17. Orlando Matta, 55, of Mahopac, NY, was stopped in traffic on Wasserman Way ahead of Roche. Roche’s vehicle struck the rear bumper of Matta’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Roche was given a verbal warning for following too closely, resulting in an accident.
Collision Near Blue Colony Diner
Newtown Police report Samuel Finley, 87, of Southbury, operating a 2015 Subaru Impreza, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road at 1:27 pm May 24. Christine Vigneau, 56, of Newtown, operating a 2016 Honda Odyssey, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road. Police said Finley attempted to turn left into the Blue Colony Diner in front of Vigneau, who could not stop in time and her vehicle impacted Finley’s vehicle.
A passenger in Finley’s vehicle was transported to Waterbury Hospital.
Finley was given an infraction for operating a motor vehicle without a license and failing to yield right-of-way.
Parking Lot Contact
Newtown Police report Sonnie Friedland, 41, of Newtown, operating a 2002 Honda CR-V, was parked in a parking stall in the parking lot at 5 Queen Street at 10:58 am May 25. Mary Hayes, 54, of Falls Village, operating a 2018 GMC Terrain, was backed into a parking stall across the aisle from Friedland. Friedland was backing from the parking stall when Hayes was also exiting the parking stall. Police said the rear bumper of Friedland’s vehicle made contact with the passenger-side front door of Hayes’ vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
No enforcement action was taken.
Failure To Grant Right-Of-Way
Newtown Police report James Muthersbaugh, 59, of Bethel, operating a 2008 Mercury R350, was stopped at the stop sign on Elm Drive at the intersection of Sugar Street at 5:24 pm May 25. Tyler Clark, 34, of Brookfield, operating a 2009 Toyota Scion, was traveling eastbound on Sugar Street and entered the left turn lane. Muthersbaugh began turning westbound on Sugar Street and struck Clark’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Muthersbaugh was issued a verbal warning for failing to grant right-of-way at a stop sign.
Improper Turn
Newtown Police report Jack Dyson, 19, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2019 Mazda 3, was traveling northbound on Swamp Road and approaching the intersection with Botsford Hill Road at 12:26 pm May 26. Sarah Bell, 63, of Southbury, operating a 2011 Toyota Highlander, was traveling northbound at the stop sign at Botsford Hill Road. Bell was waiting in traffic to make a right turn onto Botsford Hill Road. Dyson traveled to the left of Bell and attempted to turn right onto Botsford Hill Road. The front right side of Dyson’s vehicle made contact with the left side of Bell’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Dyson was issued a written warning for making an improper turn.
Lost Control On Wet Roadway
Newtown Police report Eric Hilliker, 26, of Newburgh, N.Y., operating a 2007 Nissan Frontier, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road at 6:27 pm May 28. While approaching a left curve in the roadway, Hilliker over-negotiated, crossing the center line into the oncoming lane of travel. Police said due to the wet roadway, Hilliker was unable to regain control of the vehicle as it headed onto the opposite shoulder. Hilliker’s vehicle struck the side of the guardrail on an angle, then continued over the guardrail before colliding with a tree.
Hilliker and a passenger were transported by Newtown EMS to Bridgeport Hospital for injuries. Hilliker’s vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action is mentioned in the report.
Disorderly Conduct
Newtown Police report Jeffrey June, 45, of Newtown, was arrested at 11:15 pm May 28 on the charge of disorderly conduct. He was released on a $200 bond with a court date of May 31.
