Sculptor Returning To Newtown
For Next SCAN Program
The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) has scheduled a sculpture demonstration by Rosemary Barrett of Kent on Wednesday, June 11, at 7:30 pm. Mrs Barrett will be sculpting a figure in clay on an armature at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown (at the flagpole). The public is invited and admission is free.
Mrs Barrett attended the School of the Wooster Art Museum on a full Ford Foundation scholarship, receiving a degree from Clark University and the museum in 1966.
In addition to sculpting, Mrs Barrett has worked in many other mediums such as murals and trompe lâoeil. Only when she began to sculpt did she realize what all of her experience had been leading to. Mrs Barrett had the great opportunity to apprentice at St John the Divine in New York and this started a journey of great joy and discovery.
A former Sandy Hook resident, Mrs Barrett has won many awards including the Sculpture Award from Kent Art Association in 2002 and The Taunton Press Award at The SCAN Juried Spring Show in 2001.
