Program On Thyroid Health

A free program about thyroid health will be held by clinical nutritionist Bea Gallagher at the Physical Medicine and Wellness Center, 24 Glen Road, Sandy Hook, from 7 to 9 pm on Wednesday, June 11.

Thyroid disorders are becoming epidemic, according to Ms Gallagher. People complaining of fatigue, lethargy, weight gain, dry skin, cold intolerance, swelling of the hands, frequent infections, bad memory, constipation, difficulty in losing weight, intolerance to heat, and depression may have low thyroid function.

“The thyroid gland, like the rest of the body, depends on nutrients to function properly,” Ms Gallagher said. “In this lecture, you will learn about what foods benefit [the body’s] metabolism as well as supplements and herbs.”

Several functional tests are available to determine what the problem may be.

“If you have gone to the doctor and have been told that ‘everything looks normal’ but you still feel tired, think thyroid,” Ms Gallagher said.

Reservations are highly recommended for the lecture as seating is limited. Call 426-6334.
