Occupation: I am an attorney with a practice in Danbury with my partner, James Mulvey. We were fraternity brothers in college, and after working for other legal firms, opened our own firm in 1976. I received my undergraduate degree in 1970 from Dartmouth and my law degree from the College of William & Mary in Virginia in 1973.
How Long in Newtown: I have lived in Newtown for 29 years after living for a brief time in New Milford. I was born and brought up in Ansonia.
Biggest Change You Have Seen in Town: Traffic, particularly getting onto Route 34 off Exit 11 in the evening, or getting past the high school in the morning.
Family: My wife Lynn and I will be married 30 years in September. We have a daughter, Lindsey, 22, who just graduated from Bates College in Maine, and a son, Greg, 18, who will be graduating from Newtown High School this year and attending the University of Maine in Orono.
Pets: We have a female yellow lab named Alexei, who is 6 years old. Â Â
Hobbies: I try to play golf as often as I can. I also like to putter around outside and enjoy rebuilding stone walls on our property. I have always been very involved with the kidsâ sports teams and always doing something with them. My daughter plays lacrosse and rugby, which I also played in college, and my son plays ice hockey. I was one of those who helped start a team here.
Favorite Books and Authors: I enjoy reading detective mysteries by authors such as John Grisham, Pat Cornwall, and James Patterson. I enjoy entertaining, easy reads.
Favorite TV Show: I donât watch a lot of television. I like comedies, but they donât make comedies like they used to. I watch news magazine shows, such as Dateline, movies, or sports events.
Organizations: I am president of the Newtown Scholarship Association, and have been a member of the Newtown Pension Committee since 1977. We have ten meetings a year. Itâs a nice way to discharge a civic duty. When I was younger, I was a member of the Newtown Jaycees. It was a great social time as well as giving back to the community. My wife and I chaired the Labor Day parade one year, and worked on the Summer Festival.
Most Vivid Memory About Newtown: Serving in the Jaycees. I hate to see that type of organization leave the town, but young people today find it hard to find time to volunteer. The Jaycees built leadership skills, which helped young people in their careers, and we had a lot of fun doing it.
Favorite Vacation Spot: The Maine coast and Kiawah Island in South Carolina.
Personal Philosophy: I live by the Golden Rule, and also believe that life is too short to sweat the small stuff. You have to learn to laugh, especially at yourself.
