Additional Casting Call for ‘H.M.S. Pinafore’

DANBURY — Musicals at Richter will hold an additional casting call for ensemble members in the Gilbert and Sullivan nautical romp H.M.S. Pinafore. The auditions will be on Saturday, June 14, from 11 am until 1 pm, at the Richter Arts Center, 100 Aunt Hack Road in Danbury.

The production runs weekends July 31 through August 16, with two benefit performances scheduled on August 6 and 13.

Experienced and dedicated area performers (late teens, college and adult) of all voice parts are sought to join the cast of cousins, aunts and sailors who are so essential to the lighthearted musical satire. Auditionees should prepare a legit Broadway song (please, no pop) or something from the light opera repertoire, and bring sheet music in their key. An accompanist will be provided. Candidates should also be dressed to move. Please note that these positions are not paid.

The Pinafore artistic team includes director E. Kyle Minor, an accomplished actor, director, teacher, journalist and playwright. He is currently the theater reviewer and arts writer for The New Haven Register and a columnist for Backstage.

He is joined by veteran musical director David Harris, who recently worked on The Grass Harp at York Theatre in Manhattan, and established choreographer Christopher Gladysz, whose performing credits include numerous professional tours throughout the U.S.

Pinafore will be the final show in Richter’s 2003 mainstage musical season, which also features the Lerner and Loewe classic My Fair Lady (June 19-July 5) and the exuberant Caribbean-inspired musical Once on This Island by the Tony Award-winning team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (July 10-26).

In addition to performers, Musicals at Richter welcomes volunteers from the area for backstage duties such as set construction, properties, costume coordination, and running crew; and front- of-house operations such as house management, ushering and concessions. Interested individuals are invited to call or email the theater, or to indicate their interest at the auditions.
