Steinebrey Named Sandy Hook FD
Outstanding Member
During the companyâs annual meeting on Monday, June 1, Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company learned that First Assistant Chief Jeff Steinebrey had been selected as the companyâs Outstanding Member of the Year.
Mr Steinebrey has been a member of SHVFR for 10½ years. He began with the basics of firefighting as an exterior firefighter and displayed his potential for a promising firefighting career during a structure fire on Russett Road, said Chuck Kilson in introducing the honoree Monday night.
âEven though this was one of this first structure fires, he demonstrated his early ability to perform the necessary tasks, then progressed to interior firefighting after completing Firefighter I training,â Mr Kilson continued. âThis member has been very active during his tenure, attending a large percentage of fire calls.â
Mr Steinebrey has held several positions within Sandy Hook Fire & Rescue, beginning with the jobs of engineer and treasurer, and then going on to become lieutenant and captain. He currently serves as first assistant chief.
Besides these positions, he serves the company with work on its membership and computer committees, and his weekly testing of the companyâs gas meters keeps them at 100 percent operational capability.
âFinally, he further volunteers his time and talent in the position of training officer, doing an excellent job in preparing the monthly training sessions for the company,â Mr Kilson added. âHe is always very willing to help out in a work session, training session, or fundraiser.â
Upon the announcement of Mr Steinebreyâs name, the 50-plus fellow members of the fire company who were at the meeting gave their first assistant chief a standing ovation. Mr Steinebrey was presented with a plaque to commemorate the announcement and his name will also be added to a permanent plaque at the firehouse that includes the names of previous Outstanding Members.
In addition to Chuck Kilson, Outstanding Member Committee members were Ken Carlson and Steve Stohl.
