Newtown Savings Bank Sponsors

‘Yes, You Can…’ Workshop Series

With thousands of adults being laid off or worrying about being laid off, Newtown Savings Bank is proud to sponsor the “Yes, You Can…” Workshop Series, which will be presented by the Center for Professional Development of the University of Hartford and held at the Newtown Savings Bank Community Room, 39 Main Street.

The series consists of three workshops designed to help individuals write effective résumés, launch successful job searches, and interview with confidence.

The first workshop, “Write an Effective Résumé” on Wednesday, June 10, will explain the basics of writing an effective résumé as well as various résumé formats that can be used. Participants will learn how to present their strengths, accomplishments, and achievements in ways that effectively demonstrate their qualifications for a job.

The second workshop, “Launch a Successful Job Search” on Wednesday, June 17, will discuss environmental scanning, successful networking, using Internet job sites and Internet searching effectively, and making the most of job and career fairs. This workshop will prepare participants for launching and conducting a successful job search.

In the final workshop, “Handle a Job Interview with Confidence” on Wednesday, June 24, participants will learn about the traits of an effective interview, questions individuals may be asked in an interview and questions to be prepared to ask in an interview. Behavioral interviewing and how to handle behavioral questions will be discussed in detail. Strategies for conducting successful phone and web cam interviews will also be reviewed.

Each workshop will be held from 5 to 7 pm, at Newtown Savings Bank, and will be led by career counselor Rebecca Danchak, MA, from the Center for Professional Development. The fee for each workshop is $30 and preregistration is required.

To register, contact the Center for Professional Development at 860-768-5619. For information about the center, visit www.hartford.edu/cfpd.
