Mislabeled Muffins At Local Stop & Shop
HARTFORD â The Department of Consumer Protection is alerting consumers who recently purchased muffins from a Danbury Stop & Shop Supermarket not to consume them if they have an allergy to soy or dairy, according to Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr.
âThe Stop & Shop corporation is advising customers who bought mini corn muffins, mini blueberry muffins or mini chocolate chip muffins from the in-store bakery at the Stop & Shop on Lake Avenue in Danbury, between May 11, 2009 and May 29, 2009, not to eat them if they are allergic to soy or dairy,â Cmmsr Farrell said. âThe labels on these products may have inadvertently omitted these ingredients.â
The minimuffins are packaged in a clear plastic container. The mislabeling applies only to muffins sold at the Danbury Stop & Shop store at this time.
To date, no illnesses have been reported; however, consumers with soy or dairy allergies should not consume these products.
Because of the risk to those individuals with a soy or dairy allergy, the Danbury Stop & Shop is urging customers to return the product for a full refund. Consumers may call Stop & Shop Customer Service at 800-767-7772 Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm for more information.
