*A reminder this week that Newtown musicians OVLOV will be one of four bands performing at Bethel Municipal Center on School Street this weekend as part of “School’s Out!,” a fundraiser for Bethel Public Library’s Capital Campaign.

For local bands will be playing to raise funds for the library, and admission is just $5 for the June 6 show. Ridgefield-based Split for the City, One Good Vibe from New Milford and Make Amends from Bethel will also be sharing the bill for Saturday’s event, which will run from 7 to 11 pm.

Admission is payable at the door, but additional information is available from the library; call 794-8756.

*While I don’t know any ticket prices for one of these shows, I do have information on three shows that have been scheduled for this summer at Ives Concert Park in Danbury.

JACKSON BROWNE has been confirmed for July 13, and tickets are $35 to $75, with a limited number of $175 “Hot Seat Package” tickets available (I’m not sure what that term means); and B.B. KING, with Marcia Ball, John Lee Hooker Jr, The Christopher Robin Band and Eran Troy Danner will be at the park on August 26, with tickets ranging from $25 to $85 apiece. Both shows are on sale already through TicketMaster.

The third show on the calendar so far, but not yet on sale, is GOV’T MULE on August 1.

*Multi-instrumentalist and singer RENARD BOISSIERE will bring his funky jazz/rock project RAMBUNCTION to the Field, 3001 Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport, on Saturday, June 6.  Admission is free and the show begins at 11 pm.

Rambunction blends a cocktail of sound with a feel similar to Medeski, Martin and Wood and Soulive, with a nod to Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters and the influential sounds of New Orleans’ legendary Meters. The group features Boissiere (a NOLA native himself) on keyboards and vocals, Kurt Berglund on drums, Steve Clarke on bass and Chris Morrison on guitar.

Joining Rambunction on guitar will be special guest John Hickey (P-Funk, Bernie Worrell, John Hickey Band). They will perform original Rambunction and John Hickey Band material as well as classic funk and R&B covers.

For additional information or directions for this one call 203-922-1870.

*Classic rockers JOURNEY, who are now working with Arnel Pineda in the lead vocals position, will be at Mohegan Sun Arena on Monday, September 7. Tickets will be on sale Friday morning (June 5), priced at $65 and $85, through TicketMaster, and then will also be available through the casino’s box office beginning Saturday.

*Journey will also be playing a show at the Chevrolet Theater in Wallingford with HEART, who will be making their only Connecticut appearance this year, on Sunday, September 13. Those tickets are $85 to $125 and available through LiveNation.com or 877-598-8689.

*Also going on sale this morning will be tickets for an August 2 stop by INCUBUS, who is its Monuments and Melodies Summer Tour. Those tickets are $45 and will be available today through TicketMaster only, and then also through the casino’s box office beginning tomorrow. The Duke Spirit will be opening.

*Australia’s legendary band THE CHURCH is coming stateside this summer, and will bring their So Love May Find Us Tour ’09 to The Ridgefield Playhouse next month.

Sandwiched between dates in New York City (Irving Plaza on July 8) and Albany (Swyer Theatre/Empire State Plaza Performing Arts Center on July 10), the band will be in Ridgefield on Thursday, July 9.

Adam Franklin, of Swervedriver fame, and Bolts of Melody will be opening. Tickets are $45 and are available by calling the playhouse at 203-438-5795 or visiting RidgefieldPlayhouse.org.

*The MGM Grand at Foxwoods sent out a reminder of some of the big shows coming into Ledyard this summer, so I’m sharing some of that with you guys this week. Tickets for all of these shows can be ordered online through the casino’s website, Foxwoods.com (click on Entertainment, then scroll down toward the bottom of the page for the MGM Grand Theater tickets, and follow that link) or call 866-646-0050 (or 800-200-2882 for wheelchair or companion tickets).

Among the headliners who will be at the 4,000 seat MGM Theater are HUEY LEWIS & THE NEWS, June 10; DIANA KRALL, June 12; CROSBY, STILLS & NASH, June 13; EARTH, WIND & FIRE and CHICAGO, June 19; and TOWER OF POWER, June 21.

Also coming are BIG & RICH on July 2; JACKSON BROWNE (who, as mentioned earlier, will be right in Danbury this summer too), July 17; STING, July 19; and JOHN LEGEND, August 8.

A “Heroes of Woodstock” show on August 14 will feature sets by JEFFERSON STARSHIP performing the music of Jefferson Airplane, along with CANNED HEAT, BIG BROTHER & THE HOLDING CO peforming the music of Janis Joplin, TEN YEARS AFTER, The Grateful Dead’s TOM CONSTANTEN, and COUNTRY JOE McDONALD.

STEVE MILLER BAND will swing into town on August 22, DONNA SUMMER will follow on the 28th, and IAN ANDERSON will headline on October 11.

Until next week I’ll be seeing you... on the road, stopping just long enough to spend Friday and Saturday at the Sandy Hook LobsterFest. Come say Hi, eat some lobster, steak, oysters, clams, and support one of Newtown’s volunteer fire companies at the same time.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141. Shows listed at clubs are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
