A Free Evening Of Swimming, Music, Fun

Residents are invited to games, music, and a free swim at next Friday’s Treadwell pool party on June 12 from 5 to 8 pm. The evening is free.

Beckoning to residents without pool passes, Parks and Recreation Director Amy Mangold said, “It’s an opportunity to try the facility before investing in a pass. This is a fun way to come to a party and check out our pool.”

Have a pass already? “Come and join the party anyway,” she suggested.

This is one of the department’s “passport programs” to give Newtown residents the opportunity to try out the facility for free.

“We will have a disc jockey and some games and activities,” Ms Mangold said.

Party guests must be Newtown residents, and an adult must accompany children under age 13.

Hoping that residents’ curiosity will lead them to Treadwell Park, off of Philo Curtis Road, she added, “See what we have without paying a fee.”

Anyone who chooses to buy a 2009 pass is reminded that this year’s program provides entry to both Newtown swimming facilities: Eichler’s Cove, off Great Quarter/Old Bridge Road near the Route 34 and 111 junction, as well as the pool.

The event is part of the Parks and Recreation Passport Program.

The next passport activity happens at Eichler’s Cove Beach Marina and Launch on Saturday, June 20, from 10 am to 8 pm. There is a picnic facility and swimming at the beach.

The final passport event of the summer will take place at the Lake Lillinonah Boat Launch on, Saturday, August 1. The Family Day event is sponsored by Friends of the Lake from 11 am to 2 pm. More details on these events will follow.

Passport holders who have been participating in the ongoing events at town facilities will receive a stamp in their pass book.

Those with a completed book at the end of the program will receive a prize. Passports are not required to attend.
