Hazards At The Flagpole
Hazards At The Flagpole
To the Editor:
As a high school student here in Newtown, Iâve dealt with a large number of new drivers. While most of the mistakes made behind the wheel are probably simply because of lack of experience, not because of treacherous road conditions, there are certainly areas that are more dangerous than others.
One such area, whether someone has just attained his or her license, or has been driving for years, is âThe Flagpoleâ on Main Street. This is not a new complaint, Iâm sure, as countless accidents have occurred here over the years. However, this problem finally needs to be dealt with.
I am aware that Newtown wishes to maintain its âhistoric qualityâ â Main Street is, and always will be, historic, not because it lacks undeniably necessary traffic lights or stop signs, but because of its history. So, as a new driver, and as a driver in general, Iâd like to see something done about this dangerous, âhistorically preservedâ spot. The town will not lose its charm or sense of nostalgia with the addition of traffic lights. It will, however, save many people from potentially life-threatening traffic accidents.
Sincerely,
Jessie McGlasson
