Newtown High School golfer Kevin OâConnell shot a tournament-best 75 to help the Nighthawks finish runner-up in the South-West Conference Championships at Ridgewood Country Club in Danbury on May 28.
The Nighthawks, collectively, shot a 340 to edge out No. 3 Weston (341) for second place. Joel Barlow of Redding (326) won the tourney.
Newtownâs Chris McCann shot an 84, Paul Michaud shot an 89, and Zach Dlouhy shot a 92 to round out the Nighthawksâ top four scorers.
Pomperaug of Southbury (348) was fourth, and New Milford (351) came in fifth. Immaculate of Danbury (355) was sixth.
OâConnellâs 75 was good enough to beat out Barlowâs Alex Hayes (78) for the top score. McCannâs 84 put him among the top 20 (he was 13th overall).
Newtown also finished second in the regular-season 13-team conference standings. Weston won the SWC regular season with a 12-0 record, and Newtown, which went 11-1, captured the Colonial Division Championship.
OâConnell, McCann and Michaud all earned All-Colonial Division honors.
