*New Milford based THE BLUE YODELS (guitarist and vocalist Bob Brophy, guitarist and mandolin player Lowell Marin, vocalist Felicia Michael, and guitarist Byron Yoburn) have helped The Connecticut Alzheimerâs Association raise nearly $93,000 through Memory Walk events since the beginning of the year. Founding member Bob Brophy lost his father to the terrible disease (which also affected the final years of my dear grandfatherâs life, although we had his wonderful personality up until the very end), which is his driving force.
When the band participated in a May 1 event at Harrybrooke Park in New Milford, more than 700 people showed up to help in the fight against Alzheimerâs.
59 Bank Street canât accommodate that many people, of course, but the café and the band are nevertheless hoping for another big crowd on Tuesday, June 8, when The Blue Yodels perform some of the rock, country, folk, pop and standards they have been perfecting. In addition to the host band, there will be performances by The Pears, Chris Ellis, Don Lowe, Doug Mahard, Mark Elkins, Bruce Wheeler, John Bolster, Jake Klar and Greg McLure.
The event will begin at 8:30 pm, and while there is no formal admission charge donations will be forwarded to the Alzheimerâs Association. The Blue Yodels are hoping to raise $100,000 by the end of this month.
*Live Nation announced on Tuesday âNo Service Fee June,â which will eliminate service fees tickets purchased this month for any show being presented at any Live Nation owned and operated amphitheater in the country. For Connecticut concertgoers, of course, this affects anyone planning to attend any of this summerâs shows at The Comcast Theatre and The XL Center in Hartford, Toyota Presents the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, The Palace Theater in Waterbury, and Palace Theater at Stamford Center for the Arts, among others.
Until next week, Iâll be seeing you⦠on the road.
Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141. Shows listed at clubs are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
