Lunch With An International Flavor
Lunch With An International Flavor
The International Club of Newtown held another successful garden party on May 22, a spring event which has now become an annual tradition.
Over forty members of the Club attended, on the superbly kept grounds of a private home on Valley View Road. All enjoyed the beauty and diversity of the landscaped property, which resembles a botanical garden.
Participants were able to socialize for a few hours, and savor delicate foods prepared and brought by club members.
The International Club was started in 1976 by five women from foreign countries, who had found themselves in Newtown, did not know anyone here, and decided to create a group in which they could socialize, help each other, and learn how to integrate into the community. Having evolved over the years, the club now counts over 60 regular members representing some 24 countries, who hold regular monthly events, such as gatherings in the homes of members (like potluck dinners to sample recipes from around the world or talks in a guest speakerâs native tongue is celebrated), outings, wine tastings, and lunches for ladies, men or all.
The club publishes a monthly newsletter, and membership dues are $30 per person per year. Anyone who was born in a foreign country, or who lived abroad for a duration, may inquire about the requirements for joining the International Club of Newtown by calling 203-929-6497 or by sending an e-mail to current club president Michel Dolivo at mdolivo@sbcglobal.net.
