House Burglary

Police are investigating a house burglary that occurred at a home on Poverty Hollow Road, south of that street's intersection with Hopewell Road.

The illegal entry occurred sometime between May 24 and May 26. In the incident, someone stole items worth approximately $375, including cash and goods.

Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact investigating Officer William Hull at the police station at 203-426-5841 or william.hull@newtown-ct.gov.

Evading Responsibility

Police are investigating a one-vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Taunton Lake Road in which the driver left the scene without reporting the collision.

About 7 am on May 24, the driver of what appeared to be a white pickup truck, who was traveling westward on Mt Pleasant Road, attempted to make a left turn onto Taunton Lake Road, but the driver hit some curbing.

The vehicle went off the pavement and onto a lawn off Taunton Lake Road and then collided with a pine tree. The offender fled the scene in the truck traveling southward on Taunton Lake Road. An attempt to find the driver was unsuccessful, police said.

The vehicle should have some front-end damage corresponding to a collision with a pine tree. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the driver's identity to contact Officer Richard Monckton at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Main Street Crash

Police report that motorist Joshway Short, 29, of Danbury was driving a 1991 Saab 9000 sedan northward near 76 Main Street about 2:30 pm May 25, as Bobby Wynne, 43, was driving a 2003 Ford bus owned by Housatonic Area Regional Transit (HART) southward on Main Street. The bus carried no passengers.

The Saab then drifted to the left of the road's center line and collided with the bus, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Short to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries. Hook & Ladder firefighters went to the accident to remove Short from the Saab.

Police said they issued Short an infraction for failure to keep to the right on a curve.

Hyundai Vs Lexus

About 8:37 am on May 27, motorist Michelle Raikes, 46, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2008 Lexus westward on Mt Pleasant Road, near its intersection with Diamond Drive, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by westbound motorist Rachina Kalaria, 28, of Stratford, who was driving a 2005 Hyundai, police said.

There were no injuries. Police gave Kalaria a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

MV Charges

Police report they stopped motorist Nicholas Pasacreta, 18, of 34 Main Street about 10:25 pm May 28 on Sugar Street because the vehicle he was driving had a dead headlamp.

Police said they charged Pasacreta with failure to have an operable headlamp and with driving with a suspended vehicle registration.

Police released Pasacreta on a written promise to appear in court on June 15.
