Free Docent-Led Tours At The Aldrich
Free Docent-Led Tours At The Aldrich
RIDGEFIELD â The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum has begun offering free docent-led tours of its exhibitions on Tuesdays and Sundays between 2 and 4 pm.
A docent will also be on hand in the galleries to answer any questions regarding the art from 3 to 4 pm.
A docent can enhance a visitorâs understanding of the work on view with detailed and informative information. With insight into an artistâs statement, the work can be looked at with greater insight, providing a more thought-provoking experience.
These tours are included with regular museum admission, which is $7, $4 for college students and senior citizens, and free for ages 18 and under and K-12 teachers. Admission is also free each Tuesday for all visitors.
Currently on view is âPaying A Visit To Mary,â which, based on a line from a 1979 play called Tell Me, explores language as it relates to personal narrative and contemporary storytelling through work by 20 emerging and established artists; âJeanne C. Finley & John Muse: Sleeping Under Stars, Living Under Satellites,â which is the first major project by the two artists in the Northeast and explores more than 200 years of Ridgefield history through the wanderings to two legendary Ridgefield figures, Sarah Bishop and âthe Leathermanâ; âJo Yarrington: Ocular Visions,â in which the New York artist has utilized cutting edge ophthalmologic technology to transform the museumâs Leir Atrium into a gigantic human eye; and the first museum survey of the work of Tom Molloy outside his native Ireland, with 20 key works including sculptures, photographs, and drawings â including several large, multipart installations â created by the artist over the last decade.
The first three exhibitions are on view until June 6, while the Molloy exhibition will remain on view until June 13.
The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum is at 258 Main Street (Route 35) in Ridgefield. For more information visit AldrichArt.org or call 203-438-4519.
