GREGORY JAMES GALLERY ALAIN J. PICARD
ak/gs set 6/4 #741546
NEW MILFORD, CONN. â The Gregory James Gallery at 13 Main Street, on the historic green, has a new solo show on view titled, âAlain J. Picardâ; it runs through July 19.
The gallery presents a collection of new paintings by Picard, spanning the genres of figurative, portrait and landscape. The thread that ties this diverse collection of pastel and oils together is Picardâs deep sensitivity toward each subject, and the desire to restore a sense of wonder to the viewer.
Picard states Sargent, Degas and Sorolla among his artistic influences. His love of light and beauty are immediately apparent. A draftsman at heart, Picard combines bold mark-making techniques with a delicate sensitivity toward mood and emotion. The result is both contemporary and timeless.
Picard earned his BA in illustration from Western Connecticut State University. He studied at the school of Visual Arts, New York, the Art Studentâs League, New York, and most recently Portrait and Figure Painting from Life in oil and pastel with Professor Americo DiFranza. Picardâs paintings have been featured in such publications as The Artistâs Magazine and The Pastel Journal. He has garnered top awards throughout the Northeast in exhibition including the Pastel Society of America, the Hudson Valley Art Association, the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists and the Connecticut Pastel Society where he holds signature member status.
