Picard To Offer Program

At Next SCAN Meeting

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Alain Picard painting a pastel portrait of a model during its next meeting, which will be Wednesday, June 9, beginning at 7:30 pm.

The program is open to the public, free of charge, and will be in the lower level meeting room of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole) in Newtown.

Alain Picard has received an enormous amount of attention lately, especially for his portraits in both pastel and oil. He was featured in a six-page article in the September 2003 issue of Artist’s Magazine. Also in 2003 he won the Joseph V. Giffundi Foundation Award at the 31st Annual Pastel Exhibition of the Pastel Society of America in New York City.

Mr Picard also won the Best Portrait Award from Kent Art Association last August, and Honor Awards at the Connecticut Pastel Society and at New England Exhibition, Cape Cod Art Association, Cape Cod, Mass.

“As a portrait artist I strive to capture that moment of honest expression and gesture revealed by the subject,” says Mr Picard, who is currently part of a group show at Gregory James Gallery in New Milford.

Mr Picard, a cum laude graduate of Western Connecticut State University, received a student grant from WCSU for outstanding artistic excellence which he used to continue his studies at School of Visual Arts in Manhattan.
