The next meeting of the Genealogy Club of Newtown is scheduled for Wednesday, June 8, at 7 pm, via Zoom. It will feature a free presentation about “Organizing Genealogical Data, Documents, and Photos,” to be presented by Club Chair Toni McKeen of Ridgefield.

One of the first issues that a new genealogy enthusiast encounters is what to do with all their wonderful research finds.

McKeen’s talk will cover how to sort information, use electronic programs to record dates and facts in one place, organize family records in loose-leaf books so that each family in each generation is easy to locate, and what to keep for each generation.

She will also cover how to organize and store documents for each person being researched; and how to keep, organize, and back up photos. She will also touch on the basic supplies that should be on hand while doing research.

Toni McKeen has been the club chair for over two years. She has many years of experience teaching genealogy classes at Founders Hall in Ridgefield, speaking to many genealogy clubs and societies in the area, and doing Zoom programs for libraries.

She did a Zoom program for C.H. Booth Library on “Three Women Who Excelled in Science,” and is scheduled to present “The Woolworth Building,” also via a Zoom, on June 23.

Meetings of the Genealogy Club of Newtown are open to all who are interested. They are co-sponsored by the library.

Club members will receive an e-mail invitation to join the Zoom meeting. Non-members who want to attend are invited to send an e-mail including their name, address and phone number to genclubnewtownct.secretary@gmail.com, to request a program link. Requests should be sent by June 6.

All planning to attend are asked to sign in at 6:45 so that everyone can be admitted before the meeting and program begin promptly at 7 pm.
