Family And Friends

John “Jack” C. Dolyak, 73, of Seymour, formerly of Huntington, the beloved husband of 50 years of Maragrayce “Maggie” Smith Dolyak, died May 27, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Stratford, August 10, 1937, beloved son of John E. and Helen Grich Dolyak.

Mr Dolyak’s loving family, in addition to his wife, includes his caring son Michael E. Dolyak, and wife Lisa, of Newtown, his loving daughter Debbie Sherman, and husband John, of Oxford; four cherished grandchildren; three siblings; and several other relatives. His parents John and Helen Dolyak, and his stepfather, George Boehm, predeceased Mr Dolyak.

Mr Dolyak played semi-pro baseball for Paul Smith College of New York. He was a lance corporal with the United States Marine Corps and served during the Cuban Crisis at the Bay of Pigs and was a member of the Emil Senger Post 10 American Legion of Seymour. He founded Huntington Home Improvement and owned and operated it for more than 40 years. He was a longtime Little League and Pony League coach. He was a member of the Seymour Land Trust and the East End Yacht Club of Bridgeport. He also enjoyed spending time in the garden, and hunting and fishing.

He was a devout communicant of the Church of the Good Shepherd of Seymour.

A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of his life is scheduled for Friday, June 3, at 10 am, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour. Interment, with full military honors accorded, will follow at the family plot at Mountain Meadows Cemetery, Seymour.

Calling hours were scheduled at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street (Route 67, across from Klarides Village), Seymour, Thursday, June 2, from 4 to 8 pm. Memorial donations may be made to The Church of the Good Shepherd Improvement Fund, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour CT 06483.
