Baum Orthodontics 15, Papa Al’s 9: In a Friday night game at Head O’ Meadow, Baum’s bats exploded to lead the team to its first victory. Grace Eurell, Julia Gerace, Emma Magazu, Nicole Fisher, Olivia Grant, Paige Connor, Lydia Shugrue, Genny Kelly, Alea Willis and Jenna Reilly each had key hits, while Eurell and Shugrue performed well on the mound and Magazu shined in the field. Papa Al’s fine offensive performance was led by the big bats of Emma Archiere, Rebecca Alicea, Kate Petersen, Kiersten Fallon, Ashley Silvaggi, Ali Daoust, Charlize Marrazo and Tori Stevens.

Carminuccio’s Pizza 7, Newtown Hardware 3: Carminuccio’s played their best game of the year with explosive hitting, tight defense, and good pitching. The offense was led by power hitting Grace McEneaney who drilled an extra base hit each at bat. Angela Carriero and Erin Phaneuf also hit with authority. Sarah Savinelli, Vaughn Keeney and Lauren Hayes showed good poise when pitching. Keeping the opponent’s chances to a minimum were slick fielding by Lennie Urbina and Meghan O’Rourke. For Newtown Hardware Julie Hess and Alison Hechler had three hits each to spark the offense. Juliette Cryder and Virginia Hess had a single and double each in a two-inning rally that fell just short.

U10

Michael Scott Financial Group 8, Newtown Savings Bank 2: Samantha Black slapped two hits, drove in two runs and scored a third run and also pitched strong in relief as MSFG beat Newtown Savings Bank at Liberty Fields. Tess Mubarek also had two hits and scored a run. Sarah Brittin and Sara Matté also had hits, RBIs, and runs scored which Catherine Pendergast drove in 2 runs with a base hit in the second inning. Lisa Price made the play of the day by gunning down a runner with a long throw from deep third base to help seal the victory.

Brookfield 5, Nuzzo Electric 0: Nuzzo Electric played hard but did not score, despite singles by Joy Metzger, Lindsay Dievert and Kaysie Fisher, and a double and a single by Zoe Beals. In the first two innings, pitcher Allie Nuzzo caught several balls and threw them to Zoe Beals on first base, forcing three outs. In the fourth inning, pitcher Zoe Beals kept Brookfield from scoring by throwing to first baseman Julia Anderson for an out then striking out the two subsequent batters.

Michael Scott Financial Group 4, Extreme Fitness Martial Arts 3: In a tightly-contested battle, MSFG rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to edge out Extreme Fitness & Martial Arts. Olivia Mubarek provided the clutch hit with two outs to drive in both the tying and winning runs for MSFG. Abby Pereira drove in both Tess Mubarek and Shannon Cheh to put MSFG on the board in the fourth inning. Lindsey Sherwood pitched well in her second consecutive start and Samantha Black again came in for MSFG.

Blueline Design 9, Newtown Savings Bank 7: Excellent pitching skills by Rose Wheway, Jaclyn Moccio, Rachel O’Grady, and Emily led the way. Great defensive plays were made by Nickole and O’Grady from behind the plate and Brianna Giglio, Moccio, Sarah Dowling and Krasnickas in the infield, and Vanessa Tucker from left field, as well as Chloe Freedman with an outstanding pop fly catch in left field. Runs were scored by Sienna Cummings, Casey McLean and Freedman with two each and Lillis and Giglio with one. Sasha Allen had a big hit and an RBI. For Newtown Savings Bank Ashley Solomon was outstanding in her pitching debut as she struck out two. She also contributed to NSB offensive attack with a hit.. Kendra Saunders was solid again behind the plate and made a terrific catch of a pop-up. Alex Watson kept NSB close when she made two difficult catches of pop-ups while playing second base. Ally Tolson was fantastic playing third base for NSB.

U12

Claim Services International 21, Pomperaug Team Four 7: Sarah Spillane and Sydney Flint pitched three innings each to dominate from the mound with Cassidy Keller and Kelsey Nicholson behind the plate. The CSI Penguins were up 7-5 after two innings and then pulled away with some strong at bats. Caitlyn Linden, Jackie Sgobbo, Tina DeMaio, Jenna Carvalho and Hanna Bigwarfe each drove in runs with solid hits at the plate. The entire team contributed defensively converting ground balls and long fly balls to quick outs, keeping Pomperaug off the bases throughout the game.

Brookfield 10, WellBaskets.com 2: Sydney Flint, Bella Luciano, Allison Silkowski, Joanna Vodola and Kaelana Dauber all had singles in a tough game against Brookfield. Defensive standouts included Sydney Flint at second base, Bella Luciano at first base, and Kayla O’Sullivan at third base. Tegan Doherty pitched well the last two innings — striking out four batters and not allowing a single run.

New England Bounce About 15, Peace Love and Cupcakes 6: For Peace Love and Cupcakes, the offense was led by Samantha Cody, Lauren Villamana, Jillian Gibney and Kelly Merrick. Samantha walked, singled, drove in a run, and scored. Lauren walked, singled, and drove in a run. Gibney walked, singled, and scored twice and Merrick had a double and scored. Kaitlyn Pierce and Alexa Horkachuck pitched very well, while Katie Reilly, Cassidy Datin and Madison Fusaro had strong games defensively.

New England Bounce About 11, WellBaskets.com 9: In a tight game against New England Bounce About, Sammie Strocchia, Tegan Doherty, Bella Luciano, and Kayla O’Sullivan all contributed singles, while Erin Burns had a crowd-pleasing triple. Annie Hoffman had a stellar mound appearance and played a great first base. Alexis Tucker pitched well and fielded several balls while on the mound robbing NEBA of base hits with perfectly-executed throws to Kayla O’Sullivan at first base. Courtney DeMeglio, Bella Luciano, Sammie Strocchia, and Jacklin Gouveia also all made several outstanding defensive plays.

Claim Services International 20, Woodbury 7: Sydney Flint, Kelsey Nicholson and Rachel O’Grady handled the pitching duties with great poise and dominance with Jenna Carvalho and Cassidy Keller behind the plate. The pitching trio held Woodbury scoreless through three innings allowing the CSI Penguin offense to break the game open early to go up 11-0. Woodbury started a comeback in the fourth with 5 runs reducing a comfortable CSI Penguins’ lead. Tina DeMaio, Caitlyn Linden and Hanna Bigwarfe each drove in runs off of hard hit ground balls that Pomperaug was unable handle. Jackie Sgobbo made a nice catch at third in the fourth and another in the sixth to lead the CSI Penguins defense. Rachel O’Grady, with a strong defense behind her, came out of the bullpen to close out the game with a strikeout and one earned run.

WellBaskets.com 26, Pomperaug Team Two 8: Phenomenal pitching by Alexis Tucker. Emily Bell and Kaelana Dauber kept the hits at bay, while stellar fielding by Bella Luciano, Shannon Lynch, Kayla O’Sullivan, Joanna Vodola and Jackie Sgobbo kept Pomperaug from scoring. Contributing to the high score were Joanna Vodola, Shannon Lynch, Kaelana Dauber, and Zoe Beals with 3 singles each, Kayla O’Sullivan, Alexis Tucker and Jackie Sgobbo with 2 singles apiece, Emily Bell with a single, and Tegan Doherty and Bella Luciano who both had a single and a double.

U14

Sherman 21, My Place Pizza 20: The hitting was lively and strong pitching contributions came from several players. Brianna Baranowski rocked a home run and a triple with 7 RBIs, while Annie Hoffman, Sammie Strocchia, Tonya Tucker & Haley Ryan all had strong bats. The pitchers mound was shared by Brianna Baranowski, Annie Hoffman, Tonya Tucker and Tegan Doherty. Tonya had a no run inning while Tegan closed the game with a lot of strikes thrown. Kathryn Kerins, Sarah Mawdsley, Cassidy Datin and Julia Bell all contributed in the field and at the plate to this very tight game.
