Award-Winning Organist To Offer Music @ Trinity Recital June 3
On Friday, June 3, Music @ Trinity will welcome organist Simon Thomas Jacobs for a recital at 8 pm.  Â
Mr Jacobs, winner of the 2010 Albert Schweitzer Organ Competition, is associate director of music at Christ Church Greenwich, where he assists in the running of the churchâs busy music program, accompanying and directing the Choir of Men and Boys, the St Cecilia Choir of Girls, and the Christ Church Singers.
Prior to this appointment, Mr Jacobs was organ scholar at Clare College, University of Cambridge, where he graduated with an honors degree in music in June 2009. During this time Mr Jacobs accompanied and assisted in the direction of the internationally renowned chapel choir both at home and abroad. Performance highlights with the choir included concerts as part of the Salzburg Music Festival, Munich Opera Festival, and the London, Innsbruck, and Potsdam Early Music Festivals as well as several commercial CD recordings.
On Remembrance Sunday 2007, Mr Jacobs accompanied the choir on a live broadcast of Choral Evensong for BBC Radio 3 and during the Christmas season of 2008 played for the world première performance and BBC recording (and subsequent broadcast) of Sir John Tavenerâs Christmas Sequence, Ex Maria Virgine.
His program for Newtown is a varied one, to contain some of the most famous works in organ literature, including works by J.S. Bach, William Waltonâs Crown Imperial, Alainâs Litanies, Listzâs Fantasy and Fugue on the Theme B-A-C-H, and others.
Trinity Episcopal Church is at 36 Main Street. The concert is free, and a wine and cheese reception will follow.
