June Is Adopt-A-Shelter Cat Month

The Animal Center of Newtown, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), and Fresh Step litter are joining together to ask Newtown residents to add a shelter cat or two to their households this month.

Newtown residents interested in a furry lifetime friend can view The Animal Center’s zany and loving cats online at www.theanimalcenter.org or www.petfinder.org or meet some of them in person at the center’s Saturday adoptions days at Paws on Main at 268 Main Street in Monroe.

ASPCA President Ed Sayres praised the center’s efforts.

“The ASPCA commends The Animal Center in its efforts to promote cat adoptions in Newtown,” he said. “There are so many wonderful cats in shelters and foster care waiting for permanent, loving homes.”

Founded in December 2004, The Animal Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping animals. Adopting from the center offers a number of benefits included in a new cat’s adoption fee: spay/neuter, vaccines, deworming, and testing for certain feline infectious diseases. The center’s locally based team is always available hand to answer any questions.

To celebrate Adopt-A-Shelter Cat month, the center will be at Paws on Main every Saturday in June from noon to 3 pm to show cats and kittens for adoption.

“Come help our cats become the love of someone’s life — yours!” said Monica Roberto of Newtown, co-founder, with Kimberly Coleman of New Fairfield, of The Animal Center.
