Danbury Hospital Surgeons Open Office In Southbury

SOUTHBURY — Danbury Hospital announced that two specialized surgeons, Laura Choi, MD, and Stuart Bussell, MD, will begin seeing patients at the hospital’s Health Specialists of Southbury offices at 22 Old Waterbury Road to more conveniently serve Southbury and surrounding communities.

The surgeons will offer services for general, laparoscopic, weight loss, and colorectal surgery. For selected patients, laparoscopic and minimally invasive techniques typically result in smaller incisions, faster recovery, and less pain, thereby promoting the patient’s prompt return to normal activities.

Dr Choi, who joined the Danbury Hospital staff in 2004, specializes in advanced laparoscopic or minimally invasive surgery, antireflux disease, bariatric (weight loss) surgery, and hernia repair. She completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at Westchester Medical Center, Department of Minimally Invasive Surgery, of New York Medical College, and an internship and residency in general surgery at St Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, Department of Surgery, in New York City. There, she received the Chief Resident of the Year Award in 2003. She earned a medical degree from New York University School of Medicine in 1998, after graduating from Cornell University.

Appointed to Danbury Hospital in 2002, Dr Bussell is one of several physicians who has spearheaded the development of the hospital’s multidisciplinary program for colon and rectal cancer at the Praxair Cancer Center. Board certified in both colorectal surgery and general surgery, Dr Bussell specializes in surgery for ano-rectal disease, laparoscopic colon surgery, colon and rectal cancer surgery, and sphincter preservation. Dr Bussell completed a fellowship and residency in colon and rectal surgery at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. He also completed a residency in general surgery at Michigan State University, where he earned his medical degree.
