St Rose Parish Activities Not Part Of Investigation
Joseph McAleer, spokesman for the Diocese of Bridgeport, said May 31 that the financial investigation into the activities of Father Michael Jude Fay focuses on his 15 years as the pastor at St John Parish in Darien, extending from 1991 until his May 17 resignation.
Fr Fay served at St Rose of Lima Parish in Newtown from 1977 to 1986. He served there as a deacon for one year and then as an assistant pastor for the remainder.
Father Robert Weiss, the current pastor at St Rose, said that because Fr Fay was only an assistant pastor at St Rose, he did not have access to church financial accounts.
Fr Weiss said there has been no investigation regarding Fr Fayâs time at St Rose Parish, nor does he expect that there will be such an investigation.
When the dioceseâs financial investigation into Fr Fayâs activities at St John Parish is completed by an independent external auditor, the diocese will report the findings, Mr McAleer said.
In a recent letter submitted to the members of St John Parish, Bishop William Lori wrote, in part, that Fr Fay resigned as pastor of St John Parish when he was asked to do so.
The diocese has advised the US Attorneyâs office about its investigation into Fr Fayâs handling of parish financial matters, Bishop Lori wrote, adding that the diocese would cooperate with the US Attorney and Darien police in their investigations of Fr Fay.
