Ogden House To Open For Season
Ogden House To Open For Season
FAIRFIELD â Ogden House & Gardens, an 18th Century saltbox farmhouse at 1520 Bronson Road, will open for the season on Sunday, June 4. Owned and operated by Fairfield Historical Society, Ogden House will be open for tours every Sunday through September, from 1 to 4 pm (except Labor Day weekend).
Built for David Ogden when he married Jane Sturges, the former farmhouse is one of the townâs oldest structures. Spared when the British burned Fairfield in 1779, it now offers a glimpse into the life of a farming family circa 1750.
An 18th Century style kitchen garden, recently redesigned, planted and maintained by Fairfield Garden Club, features herbs and vegetables typical of those used by the Ccolonial housewife for housekeeping, fragrance, medicine and food.
Admission to the house is $2 for adults and $1 for children; members are free. For more information call 203-259-1598.
Founded in 1903, Fairfield Historical Society is a privately supported, non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and interpreting the history of the Fairfield region.
