Occupation: I have been head custodian at Newtown Middle School for the past two years.

Family: My wife is Barbara. I have a daughter, Jessica, who is 28 years old, and a son, Jason, who is 27, and a stepdaughter, Chrissie and her husband, Tom. I also have three grandchildren, Jayson, Jack, and Grace. Jack and Grace are twins and are 15 months old. My mother and father lived in Sandy Hook for years, and my mother worked at the dog pound here for 20 years.

Pets: I could never replace the German shepard I had as a kid, so no pets. That dog stuck with me — she was a good girl.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I lived in Sandy Hook from 1967 until 8 months ago, when we moved to Southbury. I got tired of taking care of my yard.

What do you do in your free time? My brother, Rudy, and I drag race. We have a race car, a ’68 Plymouth ‘Cuda. We race in Lebanon Valley in Upstate New York. I like to spend time with my wife, too, and the school eats up a lot of my time.

Do you have a favorite movie? American Graffiti. It’s cars, cars, and cars. I think it came out in 1972 or 1973. I remember seeing it at the town hall when I was a kid.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? Bermuda. I’ve been there three times and I want to go back. It’s beautiful, with the pink sand and the ocean. The people are nice there.

Do you have a hero? My father. He has always been there for me. And my brother. I look up to him.

What is your best memory of Newtown? When I was growing up here, this was a country town. I’ve got footprints all over this town! I remember fishing in the rivers and lakes, running around in the woods. I still like it here.

Do you have a personal philosophy? The thing I’ve always lived by is something a teacher who still works at Newtown Middle School, and who I had as a teacher as a kid — Nelson Poulter — told me: “Ignorance is a man’s worst enemy.” It took me a few years before I realized what he was saying to me, but it stuck with me. Sometimes, that’s how it works.

Do you carry anything interesting in your pockets? Not really. Just the stuff I pick up off the floors, like broken pencils and things. And my car keys and cell phone.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years? Hopefully, retired. I’d like to be living someplace with a lake that I can be fishing on. That would be very nice.
