Elizabeth Bassett

Seamstress For Castro Convertibles

Elizabeth “Betty” (Pawlisak) Bassett, 90, a longtime resident of Danbury, died May 27 at Ashlar of Newtown. She was the beloved wife of James E. Bassett of Danbury. Mrs Bassett was born January 5, 1916, the daughter of Andrew and Theresa (Karenitch) Barabas in Homestead, Penn.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Lori and Paul Hubina of Newtown, Betsy and Mack Johnson of Carlisle, Penn., Marie and Jim Beard of Bethel, Barbara and Bob Mahoney of Schenectady, N.Y., James and Sue Bassett of Barefoot Bay, Fla., Glenn and Beth Bassett of Brewster, Mass., Wendy Weyer of Danbury, and Allison Sagnnelli of Brookfield; three brothers, Andrew Barabas of Danbury, John Barabas of Ocala, Fla., and Stephen Barabas of Crestview, Fla.; three sisters, Barbara Castro of Crestview, Fla., Mary Vitale and her husband, Al, of Tequesta, Fla., and Julie Miller and her husband, Pete, of Brookfield; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Barabas of Danbury and Peggy Barabas of Coconut Creek, Fla. Seventeen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and 25 nieces and nephews also survive her.

Her husband, Joseph “Bob” Pawlisak, two brothers, Paul and Joseph Barabas, and one sister, Theresa Castro, predeceased her.

Mrs Bassett was a seamstress for Castro Convertibles.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held June 1 at St Peter Church in Danbury. Interment followed at St Peter Cemetery.
