Michael D. Taylor, NHS class of 2003, has been awarded the Malcolm Moulton Prize in Biology by Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine. Michael is a two-time Sarah and James Bowdoin Scholar majoring in biology and environmental studies.
Jacqueline Talamo and James Talamo of Newtown have been named to the Principalâs Honor Roll for the third marking period at St Joseph High School in Trumbull.
Matthew J. Klaus, a native of Newtown, received the Charles W. Van Way Award, given to the student who has contributed the most to building community at the school, during American Universityâs Honors Convocation. Matthew earned his degree from American Universityâs College of Arts and Sciences in music.
Andrew A. Rote, NHS Class of 2002, graduated Cum Laude from Muhlenberg College with a Bachelor of Arts in English. Andrew, who made the spring 2006 Deanâs List, is the son of Randi and Chuck Rote of Sandy Hook.
Cornell University, in Ithaca, N.Y., conferred degrees on two Newtown residents: Lauren Bass, architecture, and Jeffrey Corbeil, electrical engineering.
Claire F. Heppner, NHS Class of 2002, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the Honors Program at Saint Louis University on May 20. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude, with a minor in Spanish and a certificate in forensic science. In September she will begin a masterâs degree program in forensic psychology at the University of Denver.
Patrick Dalton of Sandy Hook and Sarah MacKnight of Newtown have been named to the Deanâs List at Keene State College for the spring semester.
Peter L. Meisel, a junior at Bates College, Lewiston, Maine, recently participated in the annual Mount David Summit, a campuswide exposition of student work celebrating intellectual life at Bates. More than 150 students gave short talks and readings, screened videos, and exhibited artwork and posters in disciplines ranging from anthropology to womenâs and gender studies. Peter, a 2003 NHS graduate, is the son of Paul and Cheryl Meisel of Pheasant Ridge Road.
