Nearly 100 Teams Compete In Annual Soccer Club's Memorial Day Weekend Tournament

Newtown Soccer Club held its annual Memorial Day Weekend Tournament at fields throughout town Saturday and Sunday. In total, 90 teams participated over the weekend, with Newtown U11-U15 teams winning four divisions across both boys and girls. Additionally, the U9 and U10 girls and boys teams collectively only lost one game out of 16 total played.

Highlights among the girls: U9 finished 2-1-1, U10 went undefeated, U11 Blue and White teams combined for over 42 goals with the Blue squad winning a division title, and U15 went unbeaten and won its division.

For the boys, U9 went undefeated and conceded one goal, U10 went undefeated and didn't allow a single goal, U11 finished 2-2, U12 Blue went undefeated and won its division and U12 White finished 2-2, and U13 went unbeaten and won its division.

The Newtown U13 boys’ team went undefeated to win its division at the Newtown Memorial Day Tournament on Sunday, May 26. The boys beat New Canaan 3-1, Weston 6-1, Bethel 8-1, and Monroe 4-1. THe U15 Newtown girls went undefeated to win its division with victories against Monroe 4-1, Bethel 2-0, New Fairfield 2-0, and Weston 3-2. The Newtown U10 boys’ travel team won every game and did not concede a single goal in the Memorial Day Weekend Tournament. They started against New Canaan Black winning 1-0 with a goal from Kolbe Ortega. Next up was Monroe Soccer Club where Ortega scored both goals in a 2-0 win.  In their third game of the day, Ellis Newman, James Gardner, and Bryson Fremont combined for a 3-0 win over Weston Gold. The U10 girls, coached by Sergio Diaz, were undefeated in the tournament with matches against Ridgefield, Thomaston, Bethel, and Guilford. The team’s performance was a true collective team effort. The U9 Boys, coached by Nick Booth, finished undefeated with victories over Monroe White (5-0), Ridgefield White (2-1), Shelton (8-0), and New Canaan White (6-0). Owen Edwards netted an impressive ten goals, followed by Ryan Yamano with five goals. Nico Patton and Aiden Juleson scored two goals each. Olivier Coatanroch and Brooks Pinto each recorded their first goals of the season.
