Nearly 100 Teams Compete In Annual Soccer Club's Memorial Day Weekend Tournament

Newtown Soccer Club held its annual Memorial Day Weekend Tournament at fields throughout town Saturday and Sunday. In total, 90 teams participated over the weekend, with Newtown U11-U15 teams winning four divisions across both boys and girls. Additionally, the U9 and U10 girls and boys teams collectively only lost one game out of 16 total played.

Highlights among the girls: U9 finished 2-1-1, U10 went undefeated, U11 Blue and White teams combined for over 42 goals with the Blue squad winning a division title, and U15 went unbeaten and won its division.

For the boys, U9 went undefeated and conceded one goal, U10 went undefeated and didn't allow a single goal, U11 finished 2-2, U12 Blue went undefeated and won its division and U12 White finished 2-2, and U13 went unbeaten and won its division.

The Newtown U13 boys’ team went undefeated to win its division at the Newtown Memorial Day Tournament on Sunday, May 26. The boys beat New Canaan 3-1, Weston 6-1, Bethel 8-1, and Monroe 4-1. Kaio Dos Santos stole the show with multiple hat-tricks across the day. The Newtown U12 Blue Boys Team won their division with a 4-0 record and 32 goals scored. THe U15 Newtown girls went undefeated to win its division with victories against Monroe 4-1, Bethel 2-0, New Fairfield 2-0, and Weston 3-2. The Newtown U10 boys’ travel team won every game and did not concede a single goal in the Memorial Day Weekend Tournament. They started against New Canaan Black winning 1-0 with a goal from Kolbe Ortega. Next up was Monroe Soccer Club where Ortega scored both goals in a 2-0 win. In their third game of the day, Ellis Newman, James Gardner, and Bryson Fremont combined for a 3-0 win over Weston Gold. The U10 boys concluded their day with an 8-0 win over Thomaston Deep Freeze with Ortega, Gardner, Newman, Josh Keogler, and Julian Plante all contributing goals along with Nathan DePaolo and London Mehmeti’s help with the offense throughout the day. The U10 girls, coached by Sergio Diaz, were undefeated in the tournament with matches against Ridgefield, Thomaston, Bethel, and Guilford. The team’s performance was a true collective team effort. The U9 Boys, coached by Nick Booth, finished undefeated with victories over Monroe White (5-0), Ridgefield White (2-1), Shelton (8-0), and New Canaan White (6-0). Owen Edwards netted an impressive ten goals, followed by Ryan Yamano with five goals. Nico Patton and Aiden Juleson scored two goals each. Olivier Coatanroch and Brooks Pinto each recorded their first goals of the season. What if you don't WANT 'green energy' cake? Yet 33% of CT ratepayers (by the writer's math) just have to smile and eat it. I'm not so sure that if whatever majority of CT that wants "to do something" had to pay the full bill for that "something" without subsidies pried from the unwilling that this cake would be so fashionable anymore. I agree, Christine - if you feel that this is something you should invest in please do so, but please stop using my money to chase your dream.

Arnie, you fail to mention that accumulated inflation during the Trump presidency was 9% and averaged under 2%, while Biden accumulated inflation was around 20% and averages roughly 4.5%. So Trump did much better on inflation even though he had put his China tariffs in place. Why? !.Drill, baby, drill! Trump understands the power of cheap energy at home and to help our allies. Estimates are that US output would have been 1-3 million barrels per day higher if Trump had remained in office. This alone would have had a massive effect on inflation since so much of our economy is energy dependent. Not deleting the Strategic Petroleum Reserve or paying Venezuela for dirtier oil than ours would have been side benefits. 2. Regulation. Do you remember that Trump told his Cabinet members that for every one regulation that they wanted to pass they had to remove ten? Regulation under Biden has exploded and has cost American citizens 2.5 times what it did under Trump ($5,000 vs $2,000). Democrats keep saying that Trump's tax cuts only benefited the wealthy. That is a falsehood. 80% of those cuts went to the middleclass and Kamala won't renew them. Massive tax increases for the middle class will result and the economy will tank! As for your prediction that Trump would limit immigration, tightening the labor market. Trump would only block illegal immigration while adjusting legal immigration as it is needed by business. A far more important influence on the job situation is tax policy. Businesses came back to the US when the corporate tax was lowered by Trump. Kamala wants to raise it above China's and make it the highest in the world! Money goes where it is treated the kindest. Kamala also wants to increase tax inflation by doubling the capital gains rate and taxing unrealized gains. Taxes on unrealized gains would force small business owners to liquidate part of their businesses every year. Do you support such folly? If so, you are more Democrat campaign manager than investment manager!
