To the Editor

I was going to pick up our daughter at college a few weeks ago. On Route 9 in Poughkeepsie, there are 15 miles of traffic lights, so when I saw all green lights up ahead I hit the gas - not paying attention to my speed - when I heard a siren and flashing light behind me signaling me to pull over. When the state police officer came to my window I handed him my license and registration and said, "Give me a ticket, I was going too fast."

He said, "I'll be back." When he returned, I expected to get a ticket. But what I got was far different. He asked, "How long have you lived in Newtown/Sandy Hook?" I told him over 40 years and started crying. I thought I had dealt with the tragedy, but it was still in there. Although it wasn't my family, our daughter lost two friends. Over the years, people would ask, "How is everyone doing in Newtown?" and I would answer, "I don't think too well." It has seemed to turn political and away from the heartbreak.

This officer asked about Sandy Hook, I believe, out of a heart of compassion, and I was free to let out what I thought was dealt with - a broken heart.

I believe our town has a broken heart and I am asking for divine intervention. In Isaiah 61:1, it says that God heals the broken hearted and sets the prisoners free. By the way, you don't have to be in prison to be in prison. The state trooper showed me something that needs healing. So I wrote this and asked the Gold of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to heal the broken hearts of Newtown/Sandy Hook and set us free. I believe in God and only He can truly bring a supernatural healing to this town. Even if you don't believe in God, ask him to heal you and help you forgive and show himself to be real. I pray this in the name of Yeshua, the Messiah. I had my arm on the door and the officer put his hand on my arm and said, "Take care."
