WATERBURY â The Equine Management Department at Teikyo Post University in Waterbury will be offering area horse people the chance to brush up on their knowledge and horse care through two days of lectures and practical work. These seminars will be offered on two separate Sundays in July â 13 (Section 1) and 20 (Section II), and then again on Sunday, August 17 and 24, from 9 am to 4 pm.
The first section will cover evolution together with basic structure and anatomy, safe handling in stall and pasture, correct grooming methods, fitting and care of tack and blankets and application of boots and bandages. The second section will delve into the principles of watering and feeding, signs of health, disease prevention, emergency care and coping with wounds, environmental issues and pasture maintenance. In each case, the morning session will be spent in the classroom going over the details, while the afternoon session will take place in the barn covering the practical aspects of these topics.
These seminars will offer participants the chance to learn the reasons âwhyâ we do things as well as âhowâ to do them.
These âhands-onâ seminars will be held at the TPU Barn at Rivers Edge Farm, (off RT 69) in Bethany. The cost is $100 per section, or $180 for both sections.
