Lymphedema Program

At St Vincent’s

BRIDGEPORT — “Lymphedema” is the topic of the next St Vincent’s Cancer Lecture Series talk on Tuesday, June 24, from 6:30 to 8 pm, in the Seton Room on Level “C” of the Medical Center.

Featured speakers are Mary Jo Wright and Tricia F. Warner, physical and occupational therapists from Rehabilitation Associates, Inc, who will discuss how to avoid and treat lymphedema.

Secondary lymphedema most often occurs following surgery or radiation therapy to treat lymphoma, melanoma, and breast, prostate, colon, and pelvic area cancers. Lymphedema, which can also be caused by injury or infection, is a chronic problem that often develops slowly. If left untreated, it can worsen or cause serious infection. While currently there is no cure, effective treatments exist.

St Vincent’s Cancer Lecture Series, in conjunction with St Vincent’s Cancer Support Group, is offered to cancer patients, and their families and friends, at no charge through the Swim Across The Sound drive to fund cancer prevention and educational programs. No preregistration is necessary for attendance.

For more information on St Vincent’s Cancer Lecture Series and Cancer Support Group, call St Vincent’s Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist, Teresa Money-McLaughlin, at 203-576-6158.
