Fundraising BowlFest Is Returning To Brookfield Craft Center Early Next Month

BROOKFIELD — Sunday, June 1 is the date for BowlFest 2003, the second festive fundraiser (and “funraiser”) for Brookfield Craft Center which last year attracted hundreds of people to the center’s historic, picturesque campus.

From 1 to 4pm, the event will offer a picnic buffet lunch of finely crafted salads, breads and desserts, music from around the world with special live performances, and a silent auction of one-of-a-kind fine craftwork donated by the center’s faculty.

The ticket price of $25 per person benefits both Brookfield Craft Center and the attendee – each guest gets to select a handcrafted bowl to take home from a vast array made by faculty, students and friends of the center. Since March the Nutmeg Woodturners (a group of turning enthusiasts who meet monthly at the Center) have been turning unique wooden bowls; and dozens of the center’s student potters have been throwing ceramic bowls in many sizes and colors. Even the glassblowing students are getting into the act, blowing glass bowls for BowlFest 2003.

“Our students and friends have increased production this year to meet an expected higher demand; since this year attendees may also buy extra bowls in addition to their one complimentary bowl,” said Jack Russell, the executive director of BCC.

“Last year the wooden bowls were very popular and were snatched up quickly,” according to Kristin Muller, director of education and chairperson of the event. “People will have a wonderful time running around and choosing their ‘take-home’ bowls from this year’s collection of more than 200 ceramic, wooden and glass bowls which we will have on display in our River Room.”

Established in 1954 to preserve and promote the skills and values of fine craftsmanship, Brookfield Craft Center is now in Phase Three of a multi-year Capital Campaign which is renovating and expanding the center’s non-profit educational facilities.

“Thanks to the generous support of the Center’s Trustees, students and friends, the campaign has already brought many exciting changes to our colonial vintage campus on Route 25. BowlFest 2003 will pave the way for many more improvements in the future,” says Mr Russell.
