Friends Of Music Held Annual Meeting, Elected Officers

The Newtown Friends of Music met on May 20 to celebrate their 25 years of presenting exquisite music superbly performed at Edmond Town Hall, to hear a report of the directors covering the activities of the organization for the past year, and to elect a new board of directors.

Newly elected to the board were Ernest J. Jaques and William C. Timmel, both of Sandy Hook and Susan K. Toll of Newtown. Re-elected to serve another year were Jane Conningham, Cheryl Edelen, J. Paul Gehrett, Margy Henderson, Lea Kinstler, Dorothea LaBelle, Frederika Leet, Arthur Phillips, Joan Popovic, and Richard Salerno.

Peter Marshall was elected Treasurer; B. Ian McMahon secretary; Fred Parrella vice president; and Ellen K. Parrella, president. Mr Parrella has served as vice president for eight years, and his wife has been president for the last 16.

Newtown Friends of Music is currently preparing its 26th season and subscriptions to the five concerts are now available. The 2003-04 season will open on October 5 with a performance by the Metropolitan Opera harpist Mariko Anraku, The Avalon String Quartet and a Broadway actor (to be named) presenting a program of chamber music highlighted by Andre Caplet’s Conte Fantastique, based on Edgar Allen Poe’s Masque of The Red Death.
