A 13-1-1 regular season record was a fantastic accomplishment for the Newtown High School girls’ track and field team, but it didn’t translate too well for the South-West Conference championships on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Nighthawks finished 10th overall with 221/3 points. Masuk finished first with 117 points and Bunnell came in second with 911/3 and the rest of the field drifted along behind. The ‘Hawks finished just behind Pomperaug and just ahead of Joel Barlow.

Kate Stickles was the top Newtown finisher, taking third in the 800 meters at 2:26.68 – a little more than one second behind Sarah Mitchell of Stratford. Caitlin Weber took fifth in the 110 high hurdles at 18:01 and Kaitlyn Murphy was fifth in the javelin at 92-2.

Ali Frobey (400 meters) and Leah Herity (pole vault) both earned sixth-place finishes.

The 4x400 relay took third at 4:16.32, a little more than five seconds behind Weston, and the 4x800 relay finished sixth at 10:36.60, about 46 seconds behind Masuk. The 4x100 relay team was disqualified for missing the handoff in the third turn.
