William P. Bartscht

The death of William P. Bartscht, 91, of 19 Cherry Street, Sandy Hook, occurred at Danbury Hospital May 28 after a brief illness.

Born in Stamford, December 8, 1908, son of the late John and Mary (Surgala) Bartscht, he attended Stamford schools. Mr Bartscht lived most of his life in Stamford, moving to Sandy Hook 20 years ago.

He was well known in Sandy Hook as “Uncle Bill.”

For 47 years he had been employed by the Stamford Water Company as a reservoir patrolman until his retirement at age 65.

Surviving are two sisters, Emma Petersen of Woodbury and Mary Didion of Georgia; a niece, Mary C. Fickett and her husband Russell C. Fickett with whom he made his home, and their children Brooke Southard and Russell C. Fickett, Jr.; a nephew, Robert H. Petersen of Hopewell Junction, N.Y.; and several other nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held at St Johns Cemetery, Darien, on June 1.

The Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Rd, Brookfield, was in charge of arrangements.
