State Benefits From Trade With China
State Benefits From Trade With China
To the Editor,
When Congress approved Permanent Normal Trade Relations with China, Rep. James Maloney voted âno.â
Why? Because increasing trade with China was opposed by the Washington labor union bosses who gave $291,000 in special-interest PAC money to Mr Maloneyâs last campaign, more than was given to any other member of Congress from the East Coast. When the union bosses demanded Mr Maloneyâs vote against the free trade bill, he gave it to them.
I would have voted âyesâ on increasing trade with China because access to the Chinese market is important to our local economy. Connecticut is the second leading export state in America per capita. Hundreds of Connecticut companies, such as Danburyâs Praxair, and thousands of Connecticut employees stand to benefit from increased trade with China.
Mr Maloney voted against them.
Sincerely,
Mark Nielsen
