NYS Summer Programs
Summer may still be a few weeks away but NYS is set to launch two new programs and bring back, by popular demand, two old ones:
âSPORTS FUN +â
For the week of June 19-23, explore a different sport each session (soccer, basketball, flag football, kayak racing, crazy water and field sports, swimming, and more.) Time: 6-7:30 pm, Dickenson Park. Fee: $35 for all five sessions. Limit: 12. Open to all students entering grades 6-8.
âSUPER SITTERS BABYSITTING COURSE â 5 SESSIONS IN 5 DAYS!â
Two separate courses will be offered the week of June 19. We will meet each day for five days. The first session will run from 12 to 1:30 pm and the second will meet from 3 to 4:30 pm. Class size is limited. Snacks are provided. Fee is $25.
âNATURE DETECTIVESâ and âTHE GREAT OUTDOORSâ nature programs at Cullens Memorial, June 26-30. For children entering grades K-2 (9-10:30 am) and 3-5 (10:45-12:15pm). This yearâs program will focus on Life Cycles (water, seeds, animals, and more!) Fee: $25 for the week.
âOUTDOOR CHALLENGE â DAY HIKEâ
Wednesday, June 28, from 9 am to 6 pm, come take a day hike in Cornwall. Have fun outdoors. Learn or practice different skills and techniques involved for a successful hike. Youâll prepare dinner (itâs amazing what you can do without a microwave!) and solve various challenges you may encounter as you progress through the day.
Fee is $10 per person (includes food and transportation.)
Limit 6. Open to students entering 6-12th grade.
Please call the NYC office to register for any of these programs.
Job Bank
Summer is almost here. Now is a great time to register with the Job Bank. New jobs are called in daily. So, if you are looking for a part-time or full-time job, NYS may be able to assist you in your search. The NYS Job Bank is open to students 13 to 17. Application forms are available at the office. Please call Jessica Clark, Job Bank Coordinator, at 270-4335 for further information.
Youth Group Meetings:
The High School Youth Advisory Board (HS YAB) and the Middle School Youth Advisory Board (MS YAB) have finished their meetings for the year.
If you are interested in joining one of these groups please call the NYS office.
NYCAAP â Meeting times will vary. Please call the office for dates and times.
All programs will take place at Newtown Youth Services, 41-A Main Street (next to Town Hall), unless noted. For further information on any of the above programs, please call Newtown Youth Services at 270-4335.
