Freeze Taxes For Seniors                  Â
Freeze Taxes For Seniors                  Â
To the Editor,
Regarding the seniors tax relief plan: If the Legislative Council really has concern for seniors, and I believe they do, they should freeze the taxes for the seniors at the present level and reduce the assessment by 25 percent. Then the elders will probably be able to live in Newtown for the rest of their lives with their neighbors and friends. It is a deserving award to the people who have supported this town most of their lives.
The $2 or $3 a day taxes granted them will be eaten up by the next rise in the mill rates. The cap of $333,000 for the elderly is super miniscule compared to the salary increases the town allows others each year.
