Misuse Of Plates

Newtown Police report that Davon Delva, 26, of Bridgeport, was stopped on South Main Street for failing to display a front registration plate at 1:30 pm May 4. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the plate on the vehicle Davon was driving did not belong on the vehicle.

Davon was issued a misdemeanor summons for misuse of plates, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with no insurance, and failure to display a front plate.

Failed Transmission

Newtown Police report Daryle Adams, 42, of Newtown, operating a 2000 Honda Accord, was parked on the east side of the parking lot at 66 Church Hill Road in a marked parking space at 5:36 am May 10. The vehicle went off the paved parking lot and into a ditch and a small chain link fence. Adams told police that she could not put the transmission in park and that when she started the vehicle, the transmission was in drive and the vehicle moved forward.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken as the incident occurred on private property.

Reversed Into Car

Newtown Police report Mildred Hawks, 93, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze, was stopped facing southbound in the parking lot of 51 Church Hill Road at 2:20 pm May 12. She was stopped ahead of a 2021 Kia Forte operated by Donald Wright, 47, of New Milford. Hawks attempted to reverse, and the rear of her vehicle struck the front of Wright’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Three Car Crash

Newtown Police report Marisa Thamm, 35, of Brookfield, operating a 2019 Acura MDX, was at a stop sign on Country Club Road at the intersection with South Main Street at 6:13 pm May 16. Morocho Saquinaula, 26, of Danbury, operating a 2017 Ford F550, was traveling northbound on South Main Street, and as he passed the intersection of Country Club Road, Thamm entered South Main Street and struck Saquinaula’s vehicle. Police say Ian Jefferies, 61, of Oxford, operating a 2015 GMC Sierra, was traveling southbound on South Main Street and after Thamm’s vehicle struck Saquinaula’s vehicle, Thamm’s vehicle was dragged a short distance, causing it to collide with Jefferies’ vehicle.

Saquinaula complained of dizziness and was evaluated by Newtown EMS but declined transport. Thamm’s vehicle was towed.

Thamm was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way at an intersection. Saquinaula was found to have a Connecticut adult learner’s permit only and did not have an instructor present in the vehicle, so was verbally warned for operating without a license.

Hit And Run Driver Sought

Newtown Police report that a 2020 Nissan Rogue owned by Nissan Infiniti Limited LLC was parked on the westbound shoulder of Church Hill Road at 8:41 pm May 16. An unidentified vehicle was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road and made contact with the driver’s side rearview mirror on the Nissan, before leaving the area.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Dalton Milgram, 20, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2004 Subaru Forester, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 6:38 am May 17. Joseph Ruggiero, 45, of Hebron, operating a 2012 BMW 128i, was stopped in traffic in the northbound lane of South Main Street, ahead of Milgram. The front of Milgram’s vehicle struck the rear of Ruggiero’s vehicle.

Ruggiero complained of a sore back but declined transport. Neither vehicle was towed.

Milgram was issued a verbal warning for following too closely.

Hit Guardrail, Pole

Newtown Police report Christian Santos, 25, of Carmel, N.Y., operating a 2011 Kia Sportage, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 7:25 am May 17. Santos lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a slight curve in the roadway, struck the wire guardrail before going off the roadway and crashing into a utility pole.

Santos was evaluated by Newtown EMS but declined transport. The vehicle was towed.

Santos was issued an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Parking Lot Collision

Newtown Police report Kathleen Brown, 33, of New Fairfield, operating a 2017 Honda HR-V, was parked facing east in a parking space at 7 Cold Spring Road at 3:48 pm March 17. Robert Scacco, 41, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Subaru WRX, was traveling westbound in the same lot. Police say Brown began to back out of the parking space and the rear bumper of her vehicle struck the front left corner of Scacco’s vehicle. Scacco’s vehicle continued to move forward, causing additional damage to the left side of the vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Scacco’s vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.

No enforcement action was taken as the incident occurred on private property.

Displayed Stolen Plate

Newtown Police report Romario Matadeem, 27, of Stratford, was arrested during a traffic stop on May 17, and charged with illegal possession of a registration plate, improper use of registration markers, operating a motor vehicle without a license, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and failure to display plates.

Matadeem was released on a promise to appear with a court date of June 1 in Danbury Superior Court.

Stolen License Plates

Newtown Police at 2:02 am May 18 observed a vehicle at the Newtown Mobil Gas Station on Church Hill Road that had a stolen plate on it. Police say upon further investigation, they found the vehicle’s operator, Ashley Grant, 37, of Waterbury, to be in possession of crack cocaine as well as several additional stolen license plates. She also had a suspended driver’s license.

Grant was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, four counts of theft of plates, misuse of plates, and operating a vehicle with a suspended license. Additionally, she was found to have a warrant out for her arrest from the Seymour Police Department for motor vehicle theft-related charges.

Grant was processed, assigned a $10,000 bond, and transferred into the custody of Seymour Police for their outstanding warrants. She is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on June 1.

Rear-Ended On Main

Newtown Police report Charlotte Cartelli, 20, of Newtown, operating a 2012 Nissan Versa, was traveling southbound on Main Street at 4:30 pm May 18. She was traveling behind a 2016 Hyundai Elantra operated by Rachel Dunn, 30, of Norwalk. Police say Cartelli’s vehicle rear-ended Dunn’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Suspended License

Newtown Police arrested Natalie Mago, 22, of Danbury, at 5:45 pm May 18, on the charge of illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension. She was released on a promise to appear with a court date of May 25.

Slid On Wet Pavement

Newtown Police report Karina Gaudreau, 18, of New Milford, operating a 2004 Honda Civic, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road in rainy conditions at 1:13 pm May 20. Gaudreau slowed for a non-contact vehicle traveling westbound, and lost control of her vehicle on the wet roadway, crossed into the eastbound travel lane before leaving the roadway and striking some curbing. Police say the vehicle then moved into a grassy area off the shoulder eastbound before stopping.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Gaudreau was issued a verbal warning for driving too fast for conditions.

Too Fast For Conditions

Clifford Gilbert, 38, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2008 Dodge Ram, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 1:47 pm May 20 when a non-contact vehicle ahead of him came to a stop. Police say Gilbert then swerved to the right and into the northbound shoulder, striking a utility pole.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Gilbert was given a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

DUI Charge

Newtown Police report Kunal Marway, 26, of Newtown, was arrested at 9:56 pm May 21 on the charges of illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive in the proper lane. He was released on a $1,000 bond with a court date of June 6 in Danbury Superior Court.
