Firefighters made a very quick stop of a truck fire last weekend, after being dispatched to I-84 West between Exits 10 and 9. Newtown Hook & Ladder and Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue firefighters were dispatched at 7:21 pm for the fire, which had fully engulfed the cab of the tractor-trailer before firefighters arrived. Hook & Ladder firefighters knocked the fire down quickly, however, stopped it before it breached the trailer. Sandy Hook provided additional water at the scene. The fire briefly closed the interstate. The truck driver was able to safely exit the truck without injury. DEEP was contacted due to fuel leaking, and the truck was towed by Modzelewski’s Towing & Salvage.     —Newtown Hook & Ladder Co #1 photo
